The project started at the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in one of Europe’s best computer science faculties, in the context of an original and ambitious research in virtual reality, machine learning and neurosciences directed by Prof. Daniel Thalmann and would later lead to a doctoral thesis publication by Dr. Toni Conde (Current CEO of PersonalCare Systems™ – PCS). That thesis gave rise to internationally recognized processing algorithms. The publication of this new knowledge has been rewarded by the prestigious “Prix de la Ville de Lausanne“. The interest of the international scientific community has been confirmed by the publishing of a new book: “Humains Virtuels” (2015).

  • Mastery in electronics

    Mastery in electronics has allowed us to conceive the data-collecting platform on the basis of a completely open and evolving technology. PCS can thus keep a complete control over the evolution of the devices while permitting the integration of emerging new technologies, notably inside the micro-systems sensors. A direct modification at the electronics level gives additional possibilities to provide new services to the elderly or the not fully autonomous people. Finally, the risks of ending up with outdated electronic devices and a “box” accumulation for the Internet, the TV, the alarm system, etc. are reduced for the users.

  • Mastery in computer science

    Mastery in computer science has allowed us to conceive smart and very efficient data processing applications. The modern challenge is to face the abundance of data and to be able to finely analyze them in order to extract the useful information by using the Internet of Things (IoT). The currently functional programs permit to build a personal profile (key factors), to detect deviations from this profile and to analyze their relevance while monitoring the person and finally to bring out tendencies, and thus to be able to predict future evolutions. A strict sorting of the data reduces the flux to only the vital ones needed to guarantee the safety and the comfort of the user. The skills in machine learning, adaptative and self-learning algorithms are the technological core in the offered solution. This expertise opens up to unique possibilities to monitor specific illnesses. PCS thus opens itself to a constant innovation and progression strategy.

  • Mastery in communication systems

    Mastery in communication systems has permitted us to put in place the interconnexions between the data-collecting platform, the processing center and finally a Smartphone, a tablet or a PC. The objective is to create a network between the elderly in loss of autonomy and the family, the care givers or the health professionals. In the current context of rapid home-automation development, the project part related with the communication systems is the least original one and the most common to all currently existing solutions.

  • Mastery in business

    Mastery in business and in founding other start-ups or spin-offs has allowed us to fine tune the technological choices related with identified and validated market segments. PCS is today capable of offering a high value added technological solution at an absolutely affordable price.

The current state of progess of the project is to install several complete systems in elderly homes in Switzerland and in Europe, including the data collecting platform as well as the various sensors. The processing center handles data continuously and displays vital information in real time or off-line on various platforms (PC, tablet and Smartphone).
